James D. Kendis

James D. Kendis graduated from the Franklin Thomas Backus School of Law of Case Western Reserve University, where he received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1966. At law school, he distinguished himself as an Associate Editor of the Western Reserve Law Review and as a member of the Order of Coif.

Mr. Kendis has been a guest lecturer at Case Western Reserve School of Law, Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, Ohio Legal Center’s Institute for Continuing Education, and the Cuyahoga County and Cleveland Bar Associations’ Practice and Procedure Clinics. He is a past Section Chairman for the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Cleveland Bar Association, a past member of the Cleveland Bar Association Board of Trustees, and a past member of the Executive Board of the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers as a past Section Chair. Mr. Kendis is also a past Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Specialty Board for the Ohio State Bar Association. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1999, Leading Lawyers in 2002, and Super Lawyers since 2006.

Mr. Kendis previously served as Secretary of the Governor’s Advisory Council for two governors and is a past member of the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation Self-Insured Advisory Committee. He serves as a Volunteer Hearing Officer in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Diversion Program.

Robert D. Kendis

In the practice of law since 1969, Mr. Kendis has been very active in governmental affairs. He has served and was chair of the Labor Management government Advisory Council to the Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation from 1986 to 2008. Mr. Kendis was appointed by Governor John R. Kasich as a Labor Management member. He is the current president of the Ohio Association of Claimant’s Counsel (OACC). Additionally, Mr. Kendis is currently a Member of the Industrial Commission Rules Advisory Committee as well as a frequent speaker at numerous continuing education programs and seminars on the subject of Workers’ Compensation.

In the past, Mr. Kendis has served on the Disability Review Task Force and was a member and co-author of the Report of the Joint Select Committee on Workers’ Compensation to the State Legislature.

Additionally, he has served as a member of numerous local, state and national bar associations including the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Workplace Injury Litigation Group (WILG). He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1999 and an Ohio Super Lawyer since 2004 when he was chosen as one of the top 50 attorneys in Cleveland. Mr. Kendis has had an AV rating for 10 years in a row.

Mr. Kendis has been a Deputy foreman of the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury and was inducted into the Ohio Academy of Trial Attorneys Hall of Fame in 1995.

In 1999, Mr. Kendis was certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a Specialist in the field of Workers’ Compensation and has been re-certified through 2014.

Terence K. O’Brien

Terence K. O’Brien is a 1985 graduate of Miami of Ohio, and a 1988 graduate of the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. Mr. O’Brien became licensed to practice law in Ohio in November 1988.

Mr. O’Brien joined Kendis & Assoc. in 2011 and limited his practice to workers’ compensation law. Mr. O’Brien has also litigated numerous applications for additional Awards for Violations of Specific Safety Requirements (VSSR). Before joining Kendis & Assoc., Mr. O’Brien represented state-funded and self-insured employers before the Industrial Commission of Ohio and in court appearances.

Mr. O’Brien has been practicing law for 33 years, most focused on workers’ compensation. Mr. O’Brien is a Cleveland Bar Association member and an active member of the workers’ compensation section.

Carl J. Stanek

Carl J. Stanek graduated from Cleveland Marshall School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor Degree in 1980. He served as a District Hearing Officer for the Ohio Industrial Commission from May 1981 to September 1983.

He then left the Ohio Industrial Commission to join a firm where he represented employers before the Industrial Commission and in the Court of Common Pleas.

In 1986 Mr. Stanek joined the firm Kendis & Assoc. Co., L.P.A., where he now represents injured workers in all matters related to workers’ compensation injuries. His special interests are Violations of Specific Safety Requirements (VSSR) and Occupational Diseases (OD).
